Shrimp dinner for my loved ones

My SO loves shrimp. He buys it frozen thaws it and puts it in everything. We have not had it for a few weeks. I would like to make him something special tonight or tomorrow since he has been working so hard during the holidays. I have pretty much everything in my pantry and can go buy more things if needed.
I would like a tried and true shrimp recipe from some of you mega cooks.
Thank you all.

Question. I'm making lemon meringue pie and the recipe for the lemon filling requires 6 tbs of cornstarch. I haven't got any. Could I substitute plain wheat flour or do I need to go to the shops?

I've done some googling but I would love some recs as well. What is your cheesiest, creamiest recipe for spinach artichoke dip? I have like 4 blocks of cream cheese and some sour cream on hand, and am going to pick up spinach after work today. I also will probably feeding about a dozen folks as an appetizer, so something easily double-able is great.
thanks all :)

I'm start a new job next week (I know, I'm very excited). It's a 9 to 5 type of a deal and I know I'm going to need to eat lunch. I'm trying to avoid the frozen route as much as possible. Do any of you have favorite lunch recipes? Something that could be transported (Tupperware and containers aren't an issue. Got tons of those) and reheated?
What do you eat for lunch? Any inspiration or recipes would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Successful Cottage Pie!

Hi all- I haven't posted in a while - i haven't had much time to cook- but I've been reading along and had a successful dinner tonight I thought I would share :)
Most people may be more familiar with this as Shepherd's Pie, but as I understand it, if you use beef instead of lamb, its called Cottage instead. Either way, it came out delicious :)
Cottage Pie (recipe from Allrecipes.com, with changes)
Ingredients- 4 large Yukon Gold potatoes, quartered- i used the same amount of Russet potatoes,
- 6 tablespoons butter, divided
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 tablespoon herbes de Provence (I omitted this, in favor of oregano and onion powder, and a little salt & pepper)
- 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg (omitted in favor of the above combination)
- 1 1/2 cups frozen peas
Directions- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly grease a 9 inch deep-dish pie plate.
- Place potatoes into a pot; cover with salted water, and bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce heat to medium-low, cover; simmer until tender, about 20 minutes. Drain; mash with 2 tablespoons of the butter and the garlic. Season to taste with salt and pepper; set aside.
- Meanwhile, heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef, herbes de Provence, and nutmeg; cook and stir until beef is lightly brown and crumbly, about 10 minutes. Spread the beef evenly in the prepared pie plate. Cover evenly with the peas; spread the mashed potatoes over the peas. Dot the casserole with the remaining butter.
- Bake, uncovered, in the preheated oven until heated through and bubbly, about 20 minutes.
This came out beautifully - my apologies for the lack of photos- we were hungry and devoured it immediately! The only thing I might do different in the future is maybe put the dish under the broiler for a few minutes at the end of cooking. It didn't really brown and I think this would be a pretty presentation.
I only used the russets instead of the recommended yukon gold because its what I had on hand. I altered the seasoning for the beef because, frankly, it didn't appeal to me.
I did also find the peas come out better if you leave them in the freezer and don't put them onto the beef until right before you add the potatoes and put it into the oven. I've made this type of dish before and had the peas come out discolored and mushy, this time most of them stayed bright green and had a slight snap to them which I found much more appetizing.

I've never been too much of a mixologist, but I'm interested in trying something new for a small, impromptu get together at my house tomorrow. Any suggestions for a good drink that can be made by the pitcher?
Any liquor or liqueur is fine. Thanks in advance!

Does anyone have any good fondue recipes? I got one from my aunt at Christmas and found that it's really fun to use, so I'd like to try out some yummy recipes! (So far I've only tried using chocolate) Do you have any good recipes for a fondue pot? It's 3 quarts if that makes any difference :) Thanks!

Poached Pears?
[Wed, Dec 30th, 2009 at 4:35pm

I remember on the Good Eats episode on poaching, AB mentioned that you can poach pears in ginger ale. I'm interested in trying this tonight; has anyone ever done this before?
Most of the recipes I've found involve poaching in white wine (or adding some amount of white wine, to syrup). I don't have any white wine on hand and don't really feel like going out to get some.
Anyone have suggestions? I was thinking about using ginger ale and adding a bit of honey. I don't know what temperature to look for, how long it should take, etc. Any help would be appreciated. :-)
Edit: Thanks for the help everyone! I ended up using simple syrup and ginger ale together, and it was AMAZING. Definitely doing this again--for anyone wanting to know exactly what I did:
Simple syrup of 2.5 cups water, 2.5 cups sugar (I used some corn syrup in place of sugar--if I recall correctly this helps prevent crystallization) Add one vanilla bean, sliced and scraped, one cinnamon stick, a half of a liter of ginger ale, and a couple tablespoons of honey Poach three pears, skinned and cored, until tender (about a half hour)--turn a couple of times.
Bon appétit!

Microwave to Regular Oven Conversion
[Wed, Dec 30th, 2009 at 12:05pm

I have a great recipe I want to try, only its a microwave recipe and my microwave is a bit old so I'd prefer to do this in the regular oven. Any idea how to change the times?
Here's the recipe:
Potato Lasagna
Cooking Spray 2 Medium Russet/white or yellow flesh potatoes or 3-4 small red potatoes 1 15 oz can of pizza sauce 1 lb of ground beef 1/2 teaspoon of salt 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper 1 1/2 cups of shredded mozzarella cheese 1/4 cup grated Parmesan
Coat a 1 qt microwavable disc with spray.
Cut potatoes into 1/4 inch thick slices.
Spread 2 tablespoons of pizza sauce in the bottom of the dish, Crumble half the beef evenly over the potatoes, Season with half the salt and pepper, sprinkle with half the mozerella and half the remaining sauce.
Repeat layers and then sprinkle parmasen over the top.
Cover with a lid or plastic wrap. Microwave on high for 20 minutes or until the potatoes and beef are done. Let sit for 2 minutes in the microwave.
